Oh, Hi! Mommy Recovery - Experience and Tips!

This is another one of those posts that really is meant for the ladies only.
Guys - if you feel like toughing it out and reading through some real deal labor and delivery recovery stuff...be my guest, but don't say I didn't warn you!

I can't lie.
I was totally terrified of the after effects and recovery from giving birth to an over 8 lb. baby.
Again, all of my online reading and research had filled my mind with absolute horror stories about 3rd degree tears, the "ring of fire", uncontrollable bleeding for weeks on end, and god forbid if I had to have a C-Section...

I'm three weeks post delivery now, and honestly...feeling pretty fantastic as far as the recovery goes. Other than taking advantage of the 800mg ibuprofen they dished out at the hospital,  I did stock up on a few supplies that I think really made a huge difference....so I'll share them with you, of course!!

At the hospital, they will give you this super fun looking plastic squeeze bottle, and instruct you to fill that bottle up and thoroughly spray your lady parts off after every bathroom trip.  The thing about that bottle is, unless it's completely full, getting that water to hit all the parts you need to is a little tough.
This is where the Fridababy Fridet came in super helpful.
It serves the same exact purpose as the hospital bottle, BUT it's designed to be used from all angles, and the spout is shaped to reach EVERYWHERE.

Believe me, you're going to want to feel as clean as humanly possible after the birth experience, and this tool really really helps!
I received mine in a Fridababy gift set that was about $50 at Babies R' Us, but honestly, if we hadn't received it, I would have gone out and purchased it.
This is one of those things that is so BASIC and SIMPLE, but really truly is invaluable.

PadSicles!
If you only do ONE THING for yourself to prep for recovery, this is that thing.  Make your future new mommy self some PadSicles.  These amazing, wonderful, fantastic, life saving things seriously helped my recovery in amazing ways.  I really don't think that my first two weeks home would have been nearly as bearable without them.

In the hospital, they will give you these GINORMOUS ice pack pad things.  They are like super human sized and you feel like you are walking around with a fully loaded diaper.  HOWEVER, the cooling effect they provide for your girly areas are incomparable and they are a life saver for those first 48 hours.

Once you get home, and you've used all of the packs you smuggled back from the hospital, you'll be searching for some kind of cooling relief without popping a bag of frozen peas into your panties.

Your answer:  PadSicles!!!!

I prepped these before leaving for the hospital, and I used one full pack of pads during the first two weeks home.

If I had to do it again I would say that for me at least, I didn't need the extra long, over night, super duper maxi pads with wings past the third day post baby.  I would recommend buying maybe one pack of those monstrosities, and one pack of a lighter, regular pad option.

Here's how I made my PadSicles...

SUPPLIES

Maxi Pads (Your comfort level, but you will be totally covered if you use the extra long, over night Always pads with wings.

Aloe Vera (all natural, no additive aloe!)  I used Lily Of the Desert Aloe Vera Gel

Witch Hazel (Again, all natural, no additive)

Lavender Essential Oil

a bowl to mix your ingredients in + a spoon

DIRECTIONS

Mix the Aloe gel, a few drops of Lavender oil, and a few squirts of Witch Hazel up in a small bowl.
Unfold a pad, but leave the plastic backing on.
Spoon a generous layer of your concoction onto the pad and spread over the entire surface evenly.
Rewrap the pad.
Pop in the freezer in a ziploc baggie until you get home!

I was skeptical about these being absorbent for use after I had coated them in all this stuff, but they totally were, and when I tell you they were a lifesaver and really expedited my healing process...I can't imagine not having them!!

Oh, Hi! Apology time!!

I officially owe an apology to all the moms I've eye rolled about when I witnessed a public breastfeeding moment.  Today we had to have a feeding in the middle of Piedmont park,, and even though I had a nursing cover, I swore I would never ever be one of "those" moms.  Here's the thing, when your baby is hungry...it doesn't f*ing matter where you are or who sees your goods (or who feels offended). You feed that baby.

I promise to always be as mindful as possible and keep things covered, because really people shouldn't have to see things they're not in the mood to see....and whenever possible I'll pop out to the car to handle our business, but when my baby needs me, nothing can get in the way of this mama doing her thing.

XOXO - A

Oh, Hi! Newborn MUST HAVES and things we HAVEN'T USED at all!

Queen B. is TWO WEEKS OLD already!! Where does the time go??

SO.  There are a million and one things that you COULD go out and spend tons of money on that may or may not make your first couple weeks with your new baby easier.
I started researching baby equipment and supplies literally the month we found out that I was pregnant, and fully used the nine months to put together a checklist and decide on the specific brands of each "necessary" item.
After two weeks with the kiddo, I can tell you that SO FAR, there hasn't been anything that I feel like I am missing, but we do have a few things that, due to Queen B.'s preference, we haven't used!

Our ABSOLUTE FAVORITE, MUST HAVE, USE EVERY DARN DAY items so far are:

This has been amazing.  Those little newborn nails are so sharp, and who wants to put mittens on your baby all day every day?? The Zoli trimmer is like a buffer that is gentle enough to use on your newborn!  Our pediatrician gave us the ok on this one at 1 week old, and we've been using it every day!  Those little nails grow so fast!

We just started using this during week 2, and we are LOVING it.  It's the perfect little item to carry around the house and provide a spot for the baby to chill for a few so that you can actually use your hands!  I imagine the usefulness of this will wear off as she gets bigger and starts really moving and rolling around, but for now, we use it while I'm getting ready in the morning, in the living room when we don't want to put her in the swing / rocker, and just around the house as an easy baby dock when we need it.  We have also used it at night to start trying to transition her from being a co-sleeper (like, spooning, right up against me co-sleeping) to being able to self soothe a little and nap without being wrapped up in our arms.  Next step - Bassinet!

We looked at EVERY stroller system on the market.  There are several awesome options out there, and your selection definitely should depend on your lifestyle!  We aren't outdoor joggers in this family, so we didn't need a super lightweight jogging / active stroller.
Our main reasons for purchasing the Britax system were:
-Overall safety ratings
-All In One system (we didn't have to buy each piece separately)
-Light enough for yours truly to get in and out of the car and carry when necessary
-EASY FOLD and RELEASE stroller
-Base included!  PLUS, all we have to do to allow grandma to drive B. in her car is buy another base, not a whole additional car seat!
-Glowing Reviews from other parents
After using the system for these first two weeks,  we are SO HAPPY that this was our selection!  The husband even has said on several occasions how thrilled he is with the ease off use!  I was able to install the base myself, although I did take it to the Fire Station for an inspection just to make sure!  Getting the seat in and out is SUPER EASY (literally one button to push) and the stroller is light enough and a breeze to open and fold down that two weeks in it's no big thing for me to run errands alone with B.

So.  Here's the deal on this diaper pail.  It's the bees knees.  It's small and compact.  I never EVER smell any odor from the used diapers.  It's EASY to open.  It's EASY to empty.  The replacement cartridges are simple to switch out.  What more can I say?  For sure a MUST HAVE.  It's small enough that we're considering buying a second one just to keep downstairs!

The Original BOPPY!
There's a reason this is a staple baby shower gift.  It rocks.  I will say that during week one I had a hard time with B. slipping around on it, but once she gained that extra pound, and I learned how to position the Boppy a little better it's been a dream ever since!  Also, we've found it VERY useful when it comes to grandparents and older relatives holding her, it gives a sense of security and support when you have a wiggly newborn!

SWADDLE BLANKETS. A.K.A Your new EVERYTHING.
So, we read EVERYWHERE how much newborns love to be swaddled.  How essential it is to swaddle them up tight at night.  How it gives them security and comfort...
Yeah.  About that.
B. HATES to be swaddled.  PLUS, she was rolling onto her side by day 4, so swaddling her at night became unsafe at that point (if she rolled over enough she would be totally unable to reposition herself to a spot).  SO...you would think the swaddle blankets that we purchased and received in bulk were about to go unused right?
WRONG!
We use the swaddle blankets for EVERYTHING....to cover her up at night (with supervision), as a burp cloth, as a nursing cover, as a carseat cover...we use them to cover her Boppy during feedings, roll them up and put under her head on her changing pad, roll them up and put them under her arms during tummy time....I mean the uses are ENDLESS. Point of all this is, even if you don't plan on swaddling....stock up on the muslin "swaddle" blankets!!!! Trust us.

Burp Cloths!
Even though we use our swaddle blankets as burp cloths...there's something to be said for the real thing.  They're more absorbent, obviously, more compact, and we use them all day long.  I recommend keeping a stash anywhere you have a changing station or basket, in your diaper bag...anywhere you feed the baby...heck. Just stash them everywhere.  How many to buy?  We have about a dozen, and that's been sufficient so far!

The Fisher Price Rock N Play Sleeper
This thing is an ABSOLUTE, 1 MILLION PERCENT, You're INSANE if you don't buy it, MUST HAVE.
We tote this all over the house, in the living room, in the dining room, in the kitchen while we cook, in our bedroom before real bedtime, in the nursery....I mean everywhere!
B. loves this!  She prefers it to the way more expensive swing we bought, definitely would rather be in this than her bassinet, and we love it because it's beyond easy to fold up and move around, even when you're toting a 9lb. baby around in your other arm.  B. will nap in this for two hours at a time during the day if you let her!

Skip Hop Portable Changing Pad
The name of the game in our house is compact and portable.  We LIVE all over our house, so having two stationary changing areas didn't make sense for us.  While we do have a full set up upstairs in the nursery, for the majority of the day we hang out downstairs.  The idea of having a changing table in our dining or living room sounded awful, so we took the suggestion of a few friends and created a changing basket to keep in the living room.  We used black leather magazine basket, so it doesn't look like some big pink baby item sitting in the middle of the room, and in the basket we have diapers, wipes, hand sanitizer, and this AMAZING portable changing pad from Skip-Hop!  It's easy to fold and unfold, and we use it on the couch and the floor all day long!  Easy to store in the basket, and super practical for us!

Pampers Swaddlers and Water Wipes
Two weeks in and we haven't had ONE diaper leak or blow out!  Pampers Swaddlers are the bomb.com.  We started out with Newborn size, but since B. was born at 8lbs and 4 oz., we switched over to size 1 within the first two days home.
After all of our research on sensitive, natural, chemical free wipes, we decided to try out Water Wipes.  While we were in the hospital they gave us Pampers wipes to use, and I've got to say that the Water Wipes beat the Pampers hands down.  The Water Wipes are so much more moist and clean up even the messiest of diapers with one or two wipes.  With the Pampers, we were using about 4 per diaper.
We also haven't had any problems with diaper rash or aggravated skin, and I really attribute that to the Water Wipes doing their job so well!

For real.  For the first two weeks all you can do to clean that little baby is a sponge bath.  We use her washcloths to make those as pain free as possible.  The method we've found the easiest is to prep one washcloth with warm water and a tiny bit of baby soap/shampoo, and prep a second washcloth with warm water.  We then wipe down B. with the soapy cloth, and follow immediately with the clean cloth, rinsing as needed.  We even do this to wash her hair, and it works great!  Also....these things are great for drying the baby too, because sometimes you just don't need those big old towels!

Nordstrom Brand Bodysuits
These were such an unexpected favorite!  Nordstrom sells these in 3 packs, and we purchased them kind of as a backup in case we needed more newborn sized onesies than we had stocked up on originally.
Let us just tell you, these are the softest, best made, stretchiest, most perfect onesies that we bought!  They are so much better than any of the standard Carter's or Gerber Baby basics, and the price point was super close.
The only complaint we have is that there are currently only two patterns options, the grey multipack and a pink multipack.  We would LOVE to have more colors, because we would buy these and nothing but these when it comes to onesies / bodysuits.

Changing Pad Set Up
There is seriously no reason that we can think of to buy anything other than a basic, Babies R Us brand changing pad.  How long is your baby really laying on this?  We found no need to spring for the Serta extreme comfort blah blah blah pad.  MAKE SURE you buy at least two covers and a 3-pack of the waterproof changing pad liners!!

Arm's Reach Mini Co-Sleeper Bassinet
This is the bassinet we went with, again after reading tons of reviews and safety ratings!  We love it because it can be used as a co-sleeper connected to your bed, or as a traditional stand alone bassinet.   So far, B. hasn't spent an entire night in this, but she has been enjoying daytime naps in it, and seems pretty darn content!
This was super easy to put together and get going, and it has wheels on one side so you can move it around as needed!
It's compact enough to not be a total eyesore, but spacious enough for your little one to really stretch out!

Those are all the items that we absolutely have been loving since B. has been home with us.  Obviously you need to make sure you've got clothing for the kiddo...but that goes without saying.

Here are the things we haven't used yet / may never need:

-Pacifiers:  B. HATES them.  She will try one out for about 5 seconds, but then spits it right out and doesn't want anything to do with it.  We really thought she would love these at night, and they would help with self soothing.

- Swaddle Me or other Swaddle specific sleepers:  Any Swaddle product that is not a blanket....totally useless to us.  B. does NOT like to be swaddled, and can also roll onto her side already, which makes swaddling unsafe.

- A Separate Bouncer:  We had not purchased a stand alone "bouncer" when she was born, and honestly, I don't know when we would be using one if we had it.  Between the Boppy Lounger, portable rocker, her swing, and her bassinet...really no need for a bouncer at all at this point.

We will keep updating as we find new faves for B., but for now this is really it!  Two week olds are pretty basic when it comes to needs it turns out, but we're sure as time goes on there will be more and more added to this list!

Next up on the blog...Mommy Recovery NECESSITIES and Post Partum Body Update!

Oh, Hi! What I used in my HOSPITAL BAG!

What I used in my HOSPITAL BAG...

So as most first timers probably do, I completely over packed for our hospital stay.

Being scheduled for induction and realizing that I would probably be there more than 48 hours helped me justify the fact that I had to bring the larger of my two rolling DVF suitcases, plus the diaper bag containing everything I thought I might need for Blair.

I read every single checklist I could find on the mom blogs, Pinterest, you name it.

I dutifully made my checklist (which is essential in my day to day life. If it's not on a list it's getting forgotten about!) and set about gathering all of my supplies.

I am somewhat, you know, high maintenance ... To the point that if I take a nap I feel totally gross and like I need to shower and re-do my hair and makeup completely. I'm not a dry shampoo, rock 2nd day makeup and a tee shirt kind of girl. I say that to say.... If the list below is all *I USED*... You'll be just fine without the 5th pair of PJs....

Out of my huge rolling suit case, I actually pulled out and used:

- My makeup & toiletries:
I brought an entire Caboodles case full of my everyday makeup, from primer to finishing spray. I have to say, that after 10 hours of induction and before 12 hours of active labor, the shower I took and subsequent makeup application really helped me feel a bit more human and kept me  in a good mood, good enough to enjoy spending the day with my in laws hanging out in the delivery room while we waited for something to happen!

I did dry my hair once while at the hospital as well, (didn't quite have the stamina to do it after delivery) so it was a good move to bring my blow dryer and styling supplies. Again, feeling human and somewhat pretty can make all the difference when you're stuck under fluorescent lights in a hospital bed for two to three days.

Having my own soap and shampoo was also an essential for me, that hospital grade stuff just doesn't cut it for my processed hair ;)  AND of course....toothbrush, toothpaste, floss and mouthwash. DUH.

-Two sets of PJs, Nursing Bra and a Coming Home Outfit:
I wore loooose PJ pants by Splendid and nursing bras with loose tanks over them for my two days of recovery.  I can't imagine being in that hospital gown any longer than I had to.  I read so many things about how whatever you wear will get ruined, you need to wear gowns and not pants... Blah blah blah. My nurses had no problems with my wearing my comfy pants, I felt more covered with visitors, and I didn't ruin one single item. Also, I had to breastfeed in front of my in laws because the baby was cluster feeding (eating like every 30 minutes) and if I had asked for privacy every time I fed her, it would have just been impossible!  So you could say we all really bonded...lol. Bringing nursing bras saved the day modesty wise.
I ended up going home in leggings, a tank, and a hoodie. And looking like the Walking Dead since I hadn't slept in three days. May those photos never see the light of day.

-Snacks:
We made two snack baskets for our stay. One was for the nurses and the other was for our guests. Ladies... Let me just tell you I tore that guest basket UP. I'm a nervous eater... So sitting around at the hospital made me super hungry. I ate more than my share of snack size Rice Krispie treats and Sun Chips... but I can't imagine being stuck in that room without snacks. NO WAY.

-My iPAD with headphones (And my husband's) plus our phones and chargers:  Again, because I was induced we had a lot of sit and wait time.  I wouldn't have made it sanely if I didn't have my iPad there to watch my shows. We did have a TV in the room, but there are only so many Kardashian reruns one can handle.

-Fuzzy Socks:
I absolutely can not stand the thought of wearing slippers. Period. I did however bring a pair of fuzzy socks with non slip dots on the bottom, and they were a godsend after the first shower post delivery when I realized my toenail has chipped at some point, and who wants to look at that?? Yes to the fuzzy socks.

-My pillow from home:
Because hospital pillows suck a** and you should be comfy.

-Two Onesies for the baby: I brought a bag packed full of diapers, wipes, multiple outfits, hats, socks, blankets to take photos on.... Yeah. Hello first time mom. The hospital has EVERYTHING. I really only needed one take home outfit but I was happy to be able to put her own clothes on her to see visitors.  I would highly recommend something that snaps down the front, because newborns don't love having things pulled over their head... I can't imagine why....

That's literally it.... We didn't need anything else!!!

We were very lucky in that there were tons of restaurants around the hospital and our parents were happy to run out and grab meals for us....otherwise I would have used Postmates on the reg.

Oh, Hi! Labor & Delivery Story

Hey there!

So this is going to be a longer, wordier post...but this is the real deal path to my labor and delivery.  This being our first baby, I had no idea what to expect for myself, regardless of how many stories I read or Youtube videos I watched...so I thought I'd add my story to the online convo in hopes that it will give some other first time mommies a little reassurance and hope for their first delivery!

I journaled from the beginning of August until the baby came, because as most mommies to be are, I was very anxious to meet my bundle of joy after being pregnant for what seemed like FOREVER!

bump progression, 6 weeks to 36 weeks

beach bump, 36 weeks

Don't get me wrong, I loved being pregnant.  I was very, very lucky...no morning sickness, no major complications, I was able to workout until month 7, and really overall just had a fabulous pregnancy!

However, by the time July rolled around, the extra weight was starting to take a toll on me for sure, and knowing that my July 21st due date was looming, and that technically if she was born at 38 weeks she would be fine...let's just say I was ready to go.

This post is in chronological order, and just straight journaled, so completely authentic and real about exactly what was going on at that moment.  I'm going to talk about breast milk, bathroom issues....etc., so this post is really intended for LADIES EYES ONLY.

I was induced at 40 weeks and 4 days, just because I was past due date.  Believe me, I tried everything to naturally induce....pineapple, kiwi, eggplant parmesan, walking....dancing....squatting....you get  the picture.  NONE of it worked.

I hope you enjoy, and maybe find some solace or answers as to what REALLY to expect!

7/6/2016

Went to the hair salon to get my roots touched up one last time.
While my stylist was taking photos after we were done, she pointed out that my stomach was contracting and relaxing, and that's how I knew I was having my first real Braxton Hicks moment. I thought it was just the baby moving in a weird way....but nope!

Once I knew what it was like (not painful, just like a small amount of tightening) I noticed them a few more times through the evening, and even had one while sitting on the couch at home where my stomach got so tight it was almost cone shaped, held for a good 60 seconds, and then released.

Again- not painful at all, just made my stomach feel slightly tight. If my hair stylist hadn't pointed it out, I probably still wouldn't think I was having them!

Also, I read that at 38 weeks (which is tomorrow) I would probably be leaking colostrum, or be able
To express a little if I squeezed my areola. So ... I squeezed one, and f*ing colostrum came out!

Holy crapola. I'm really about to have a baby.

7/20/2016

Still have had pain free Braxton hicks tightening on and off for the past two weeks - but no real contractions, no mucus plug loss... Nothing.

The only thing that had started happening was that I felt a lot of pressure in my Britney area... And she just felt LOWER.

During the doctor appointment today, my doc told me that I was dilated to 1cm, and that she could feel the baby's head during the cervical check!

My due date is tomorrow, so we are patiently waiting for something to happen...
BUT if she doesn't show up before Sunday were going in to be induced Sunday evening!

7/24/2016

10am - I think I lost my mucus plug!

We waited all day for the hospital to call us... Supposed to be called by 5pm... But we didn't have a call by 4:30, so I called the hospital.  Turns out my doctor had not sent my info over to be put on the schedule - so we have to wait for them to call ...
40 weeks and 4 days

7/25/2016

2:55 am- They finally called us! Oh my gawd! Checked in to hospital and waiting for our nurse to take us to our room!!! Super excited, but also have not gone #2 today so crossing my fingers I can have a nice quiet one before my epidural ....
no idea what we were in for yet....just happy to be in our room!

7am - Started Pitocin drip at level 2! I had been having some contractions during the early morning, but still nothing painful.  Had to confirm with the nurse that they were actual contractions!  Kind of felt like just tightening and a little pinching.

They moved the drip to a 4 and then the contractions picked up and got more and more intense over the next couple hours.

At 4pm the nurse checked me and I was STILL just 1cm so they decided to do an overnight dose of Cervadil.  The process of getting the Cervadil inserted was AWFUL! Plus I had a contraction while she was doing it, so that was tons of fun.

Before the Cervadil I was able to take a shower (hallelujah!) and eat dinner (yesssss).  While on the Pitocin you can't eat at all...try that while 40 weeks and 4 days preggo!

day 2 of induction...about to begin 12 hours of contractions without pain relief...

After Cervadil started, the contractions got waaaay more intense to the point where I was squeezing my husbands hand and crying through several.

The only pain medication available to me since I was not dilated enough was Morphine, which crosses the placenta and can carry the risk of slowing baby's heart rate so I reaaallly did not want to do that. They also offered Ambien to sleep, but again, didn't want to introduce any new or not completely necessary drugs.

I caved at 2am, the pain was just too unreal! I have the nurse check me and I was dilated to a 2, still not enough for epidural but I had to do something because the contractions were way too intense for me to do anything but cry and breathe through them.

At 4am still having contractions but a slight bit less painful...then they were back full force, and at 5am I started a contraction that went on for a good 15 minutes and I had soooo much pressure downstairs I thought I was going to go to the bathroom all over the place.

I called the nurse after screaming in pain for those 15 minutes, she pulled the Cervidil and I was at 4cm, then 10 minutes later at 7!

After about 30 minutes I got my epidural, which was beyond easy, and within 20 minutes contractions were almost completely gone.

I had them flip me over after 30 minutes so the medicine could work on that side.

Then at 8:15 they checked me again and I was fully dilated but at 0 position, so waiting until 9:30 and then we will start pushing!!!

At about 10am, the nurses asked me to do a trial push, to see how the baby would react to the pushing/contraction combo.

I hoisted my legs up by my head, and they told me to take a deep breath, hold it in, lean forward like I was trying to crunch, and push for 10 seconds.

After the trial push, it took the baby longer than expected for her heartrate to re-normalize, which meant that she was not responding well to the pushing.

The nurses called the doctor in, and after reviewing the situation, the doctor strapped an oxygen mask on to me and explained my options:

  1. We could attempt to move forward and push her out, but we could only try 3-4 pushes, and if she wasn't out, we would have to go to a C-Section.  Also, this method would require assistance from the "vacuum" to ensure the maximum chance of getting the baby to make her appearance.
  2. Straight to C-Section.
After all my research, I knew that the last thing I wanted to be recovering from after a new baby was a C-Section.  I made up my mind that I would get her out, and hoped that my workouts throughout almost my full pregnancy had prepared my stamina enough to make it happen.

I told the doctor that we wanted to try to push, and we started...

1st push, I leaned forward, grabbed my knees, inhaled deep, and crunched / pushed.  The doctor seemed to think I made a good amount of progress, so we went for another.

2nd push, deep breath, crunch, push again.  I heard the doctor saying that she was getting closer, and that she almost had her head out....ohmygoodness it was working!!

3rd push,  breathe, crunch, push HARD.... Doctor said she was almost all the way out, and we needed one more push!  My husband is cheering me on from above the non-existent sheet we had relied on for privacy, and I knew I had to get this last push going!

4th push, I feel the pressure subside, and hear a cry from our little girl!  She was out! And then there she was, being placed on my chest, all warm and snuggly and new.

My husband started crying, my tears happened, and we looked at this new life we created and couldn't believe how lucky we were.

The actual delivery process was the easiest part of the whole ordeal.  THANK GOD for epidurals.  I swear, I have NO IDEA how anyone could handle that naturally!

After checking her out, making sure she was healthy and good to go, the doctors let us do skin to skin for about an hour, which was the most magical hour of my entire life.

ABOUT THE CONCERNS I HAD PRE-DELIVERY:

  • I was terrified of going #2 on the table and my husband never being able to look at me the same way....I have NO IDEA if it happened, but I don't think it did, I never saw them jump in to wipe anything away, or act like they were doing any clean up of that nature.  HONESTLY, and I know you don' t believe me, but if it had happened, I would not have cared at all....all you care about is getting that baby out safely.
  • I had read that delivering the placenta was worse than the baby....I NEVER felt it happen.  I literally had NO IDEA it was going on until my doctor announced that the placenta had been delivered.
  • I had NIGHTMARES about tearing.  Like, literal nightmares.  I ended up with only a 1st degree small tear, and this kid was 8lbs 4oz.  I had brought supplies to make warm compresses to help things relax and stretch, but we never had a chance to use them and honestly, my recovery has been incredibly easy.  After the first four days....I feel like I'm almost back to normal.  I DID make "Pad Sicles", which I think REALLY helped my lady parts heal super fast....(I'll post about how to make those for sure!)
  • I thought for sure that after delivery I would be non-stop bleeding all over the place and terrified of having visitors and for sure ruining whatever I was wearing.  NOPE.  I mean, it was definitely a flow, but with the supplies the hospital provided (ice pack pads and maxi pads with disposable undies) it was no big deal.  I was able to lounge around and receive company PLUS put my own clothes on and never had one incident.  Hallelujah!

I'll be posting a recovery / 1 week update over the weekend, as well as what I used in my hospital bag!  Comment or shoot an email if you have specific questions, and I will be HAPPY to answer!!!
